The Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit have made six changes to their squad for the 2016-17 season.
Headlining the changes is the return of Australian top order batter Jess Cameron to her home state.
The 2013 Australian Women’s Cricketer of the Year made her debut for Victoria in 2006/07 and spent last WNCL season playing for the Western Fury.
Joining Cameron is a young and talented group of newly contracted players including Sophie Molineux, Alana King, Hayleigh Brennan and Makinley Blows.
Blows, a left-hand top order batter, and Hayleigh Brennan, a right-arm opening bowler, are new additions to the side following selections to the Cricket Australia Talent Camp and Shooting Stars respectively.
Impressive all-rounder Molineux, 18, was recently selected on the Shooting Stars tour of Sri Lanka following a standout year in the Under 18 National Championships last January, earning player of the tournament.
King is a prolific spin bowler who represented Victoria at under-18 level and also played for the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League.
VicSpirit coach David Hemp said the mix of new and proven talent delivered an exciting list capable of breaking new ground under captain Meg Lanning.
“The young talent in the squad is a sign of the positive future and ongoing development of the women’s game in Victoria,” Hemp said.
“Combine that with the strength and depth of the mature, experienced players still in the squad, and we have an exciting side.”
“We are fortunate to have a great talent pool in Victoria which made the selection process very challenging. We are looking forward to a successful season ahead with this group.”
Kelly Applebee (retired), Danielle Wyatt (ECB commitments), Cassie Brock, Briana Binch, Kathleen Hempenstall and Nicola Hancock have not been offered contracts for the 2016-17 season.
