EMP triumph over Brunswick Park

A weekend chocked full of Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit stars has seen Essendon-Marribyrnong Park thump Brunswick Park in round 16 of the VWCA Essteele Premier Firsts.

Batting first, Brunswick Park collapsed to be all out for 112 in the 41st over, a total which was swollen by 26 extras from the Bomber bowlers.

VicSpirit and Brunswick Park captain Emma Inglis (33) was the only Parkers bat to threaten against an EMP attack that included the likes of Briana Binch, Kristen Beams, Molly Strano and Cassie Brock.

Binch and Brock were the leading wicket takers with 3-23 and 2-17 respectively, while Beams and Strano were unlucky to not get amongst the wickets bowling a combined 12 overs for just 20 runs.

Needing just 2.26 runs per over, EMP were always in control in reply with Strano (57) registering a near run-a-ball half century and Brock (28 not out) ensuring she was there when the low total was passed in the 25th over with the loss of just three wickets.

The win moves EMP into second place just two points adrift from Box Hill with a game in hand on the ladder leaders.

This Sunday, a VWCA Essteele Premier FirstsTwenty20 double header sees the entire competition battle it out over two Twenty20s each at the Junction and Harry Trott ovals in St Kilda.

Matches start at 11am and entry is free.
