Fitzpatrick appointed Australian Coach

Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit Coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick has been appointed as Head Coach of the Australian Southern Stars after Richard McInnes resigned from the position.

Cricket Australia's General Manager Team Performance, Pat Howard commented on Fitzpatrick's promotion today.

"In terms of coaching, CA has appointed Cathryn Fitzpatrick in the restructured Head Coach role," Howard said.

"Cathryn has been the Australian Team Assistant Coach since 2009-10 and has coached the Victorian Spirit Team since 2007-08."

Since retiring in 2007, Fitzpatrick has guided the Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit to a treble of WT20 titles, culminating in a nine-run victory against NSW Breakers in January, and despite her new role, she will continue to coach the Victorian side.

"Cathryn will continue to coach the Victorian Spirit Team in 2012-13 season and CA would like to thank Cricket Victoria for their support of Cathryn to perform the Australian Women's Team Head Coach role through this 10-month period," Howard said.

"The Head Coach role will be advertised in March 2013."
