Lanning and Cameron in fine form
The Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit squad finally received some match practice with a weekend free of weather interruption.
The full squad, plus several promising juniors, played in two intra-squad Twenty20s at Aberfeldie Park on Saturday.
On Sunday, Brunswick Park played Box Hill and Plenty Valley took on Essendon Maribyrnong Park in the Essteele Premier Firsts.
The cream rose to the top with Southern Stars Jess Cameron and Meg Lanning the standouts of the Twenty20s.
Cameron struck 67 (from 41 balls) and 39 (24), while Lanning hit 55 (36) and 77 (55) in the two matches.
Most batters got amongst the runs with Sarah Elliott 33 (36), Clea Smith 25 (14), Kristen Beams 27 (31) and 18 (19), Natalie Schilov 51 (40) and Molly Strano 20 (13) all enjoying the friendly conditions.
Julie Hunter and young Dandenong bowler Alana King were the most effective with the ball.
Hunter took 1-14 and 2-12 in her two spells while King finished with figures of 2-8, which included the prized wicket of Lanning and 1-14.
Kathleen Hempenstall also bowled well in the first match, claiming a double-wicket maiden in her opening over.
In Sunday's Premier matches, Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit captain Emma Inglis hit 84 (72) in Brunswick Park's 97-run loss to Box Hill.
Box Hill's win was set up by even contributions from several batters including VicSpirit players Meg Lanning 38 (46), Anna Lanning 36 (39) and Annie-Rose Maloney 26 (36).
Hempenstall opened the bowling for Brunswick Park and claimed 2-46 from 10 overs.
In Sunday's other match, Essendon Maribyrnong Park were convincingly beaten by Plenty Valley.
Batting first VicSpirit players Emily McIntyre 44 (59), Steph Townsend 21 (40) and Strano 10 (16) were the only batters to make double figures as the Bombers were dismissed for just 110.
Jess Cameron made easy work of the target, hitting a quick-fire 55 (61) as Plenty Valley reached the total in 20 overs.
