Lanning leads from the front
Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit rookie Anna Lanning has put in a stellar performance for her side Box Hill in the VWCA Essteele Premier Firsts.
Lanning ripped through the Dandenong top-order to leave the Lions reeling at 7-33.
The 17-year-old then came back to clean up the tail, finishing with figures of 4-15 from nine overs, as Dandenong was dismissed for 71 in the 36th over.
In reply, Box Hill was cruising at 4-63 before the loss of four wickets for nine runs saw the match balanced on a knife edge, with the Mustangs requiring four runs with just the one wicket in hand.
However, tail-enders Julia Crocket-Grills and Laura Shaw held their nerve to see their side hang on, claiming victory by one wicket.
A run-a-ball 46 from fellow VicSpirit rookie Kirsty Lamb was not enough to get Plenty Valley over the line against Brunswick Park.
Chasing 174 for victory, the Bats got off to a solid start with Lamb striking eight boundaries during her innings.
The Parkers' total proved too much, however, and the Plenty Valley innings fell away with the loss of Lamb to be rolled for 150 in the 46th over.
With the WNCL concluding over the weekend, most VWCA clubs will be boosted by the inclusions of their VicSpirit players for the final 10 weeks of the season.
