Six VicSpirit players in World Cup Squad

Six Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit players have been selected in the preliminary 30-player women's squad for the ICC World Twenty20 to be played Sri Lanka in September and October.

Southern Stars contracted players Jess Cameron, Sarah Elliott, Meg Lanning and Julie Hunter have been joined in the squad by Victorian teammates Kristen Beams and Elyse Villani.

Leg-spinner Beams claimed six wickets in last season's WT20 season with a strike rate of 12.00, which was the seventh lowest in the competition.

Villani, who scored 108 runs during an injury-riddled tournament, has spent the off-season playing for Staffordshire in the UK where she struck 129 from just 72 deliveries in her debut match for the side.

Interim Southern Stars head coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick said that Beams had fought back well after an injury in 2010-11.

"Beams is part of the Shooting Stars squad and has been rewarded for her form and consistency after fighting back from an injury the previous year," Fitzpatrick said.

"Elyse has the experience (having played in the previous World Twenty20 in 2010), and we are confident in her power hitting."

The Southern Stars are drawn in Group A alongside India, England and Pakistan.

The defending champions kick off their campaign against India on September 27 and will then play Pakistan on Saturday September 29 and England on October 1.
