The Queensland Fire have secured a thrilling super over victory over the VicSpirit in their rain-affected Twenty20 at Harry Trott Oval on Sunday.
With showers falling throughout the morning in Melbourne, play was delayed for over an hour and the match was reduced to 10 overs apiece.
Sent in to bat, the Spirit made 5-85 in their 10 overs with opener Meg Lanning top scoring with 27.
She was well supported by fellow opener Elyse Villani (19) and Kelly Applebee, who made 16 before she was run out late in the innings.
Jemma Barsby was the chief destroyer for the Fire with 3-10 off two overs, while Jude Coleman and Selena Tainton both picked up run outs.
Queensland star Melissa Bulow continued her fine start to the season with a quickfire 39, while fellow opener Jess Jonassen contributed 12.
Needing 12 runs off the final over, Jodie Fields (19 not out) almost got the Fire to their target but two runs off the final ball ensured the two sides finished level.
In the super over, Queensland batted first and made 2-8 with their wickets falling in the final two balls as the Fire batters were run out looking for extra runs.
The Spirit looked to be in the box seat, but Player of the Match Barsby stepped up when it counted to clean bowl Lanning and Villani three balls in to end the match.
