Spirit make one change for Women's T20 final

Wed, 20 January 2010

Victorian selectors have made one change to the DEC VicSpirit team for Saturday's Women's Twenty20 final against NSW Breakers at the Adelaide, with leg-spinner Kristen Beams coming in for Kath Hempenstall. Beams has had the wood over the Breakers in recent times, taking 3/41 and 4/25 in both WNCL matches this season, while taking a career-best 5/38 against them last year. The Spirit finished second on the Women's Twenty20 ladder, losing their only match in last week's game against the ACT Meteors after they had already secured a spot in the final. DEC VicSpirit coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick is expecting a more aggressive effort from her team on Saturday as they chase the inaugural Women's Twenty20 title. "We still haven't nailed a Twenty20 game yet, we've had even contributions from the group, but we've still got plenty in the tank," Fitzpatrick said. "Twenty20 cricket really suits the personality of our group, it frees them up to play their natural game, so we just need to go out and execute." The clash between the Spirit and the Breakers is being played as a double-header with the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash final between the DEC Bushrangers and West End Redbacks. The match is also going to be broadcast live on Fox Sports, with coverage starting at 3.30pm EDT. "It's a great occasion, the girls are looking forward to it and hopefully we can celebrate a couple of Victorian wins," Fitzpatrick said.
