Wed, 23 December 2009

DEC VicSpirit young guns starred as the Commonwealth Bank Shooting Stars finished their five-match series against New Zealand Emerging Players with a 91-run victory, Elyse Villani scoring 80 and Meg Lanning taking 3/20. Opening the innings for the Australian under-21's, Villani made 80 off 98 balls to be the top-scorer in the Shooting Stars' innings of 236. Fellow Victorian Renee Melton made 15 off 22, while vice-captain Jess Cameron was rested from the game. New Zealand looked to be cruising at 0/47 before the introduction of Lanning into the attack changed the game. The 17-year-old took three quick wickets with her medium-pacers, triggering a collapse that saw the visitors dismissed for 145. The Aussie under-21's finished up winning the series 4-1.
