Time to shine
An intra-squad Twenty20 match has provided a number of Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit squad members with a chance to shine ahead of selection for this week's clash with the Tasmanian Roar.
Cassie Brock showed why she was a winner of the Commonwealth Bank Future Stars Award in 2010 with a run a ball 35.
Brock and Julie Hunter (25) put on a 48-run partnership to get their side, captained by Emma Inglis, over the line.
Emily McIntyre took 3-17 in the opposing team skippered by Jess Cameron.
Earlier in the day Elyse Villani helped Brunswick Park move to the top of the Essteele Premier Firsts Twenty20 ladder after defeating Dandenong out at Casey Fields.
Opening up alongside Inglis (15), Villani top-scored with a blistering 77 off just 52 balls that saw Brunswick Park reach 4-139 after their 20 overs.
In reply, Kelly Applebee offered some resistance for Dandenong with 39 from 18 deliveries but it was not enough as the Panthers fell 45 runs short.
Speedster Kathleen Hempenstall was the main wicket taker finishing with figures of 4-22.
The Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit will be taking on the Tasmanian Roar in two Twenty20's and one WNCL one-day match from November 25 to 27 at the Camberwell Sports Ground.
