Villani to join Wyatt at Staffordshire
Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit star Elyse Villani leaves for England today to take up a playing position at Staffordshire in the County competition with England international and Victorian player Danni Wyatt.
The right-hand batter, who has played 64 matches for the VicSpirit since making her debut in 2008, is excited about the prospect of teaming up with the English all-rounder again.
"We called ourselves "Danyse" during the summer so playing with Danni should be a lot of fun," Villani said.
A pivotal part in Victoria's three consecutive WT20 titles, Villani is keen for the trip overseas to kick-start her preparations for the new VicSpirit season.
"We don't get the chance to get a lot of match practice in between seasons with the VicSpirit so I'm looking forward to getting over there and having a hit," Villani said.
Villani has limited experience in England having only trained briefly in Taunton with the Australian side and is unsure of what the standard will be.
"I'm not sure how it will compare to the club competition here but hopefully it will be very strong," Villani said.
VicSpirit's 2011-12 import, Wyatt, who was named Player of the Match in the WT20 final against NSW Breakers, has dominated for Staffordshire since debuting for their 1st XI as a 14-year-old in 2005.
She has played in the 1st XI on 50 occasions and produced 1595 runs at an average of 40.9 with three centuries and also claimed 57 wickets at 15.57.
Villani will arrive in time to take the field in Staffordshire's first game of the season against Devon on Sunday May 27.
